With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Peter Baden Potts on Friday November 24, 2023, at the age of 94. He passed away peacefully at St Mary’s Hospital with family by his side.
He was pre-deceased by his beloved wife, Beryl Potts (nee Richards). Will be greatly missed by Alan and Catherine, David and Julia, and Corinne and Bob (Branigan). Wonderful grandfather to Jaymie (Alan and Brenda), Alexandra, Brad and Amber (Dave and Julia), Owen and Megan (Corinne and Bob). Loving great grandfather to Georgia (Owen and Lauren).
Peter went to sea as a merchant mariner at the age of 17. In 1954, he married the love of his life Beryl, whom he met in high school, while singing together in Gilbert and Sullivan’s operetta, “Gondoliers”, in Aberystwyth, Wales.
In 1963, Peter and Beryl packed up the family in Wallesey, UK, and emigrated to Canada. They set down roots in Woodstock, Ontario where they soon became active in the community, including New St Paul’s Church, the YMCA, and Badminton and Tennis Clubs. Peter had a rewarding career with Timberjack (Eaton Corp) as Traffic Manager until his retirement in 1990.
The family enjoyed camping for many years and then Mum and Dad purchased the cottage on Six Mile Lake in 1971. The cottage means so much to the family and was the place of the special Potts/Rees reunion in the year 2000.
Peter and Beryl moved to Waterloo in 1991 and soon joined All Saints Anglican Church. They were very active in the church community and enjoyed singing in the choir for many decades.
We will always honour the values Peter and Beryl instilled in us, and cherish Dad’s Welsh accent, smiling face, and cheery “Hello” when we spoke.
A service will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at All Saints Anglican Church, 400 Northfield Drive West, Waterloo, at 11:00 am. A celebration of life gathering will take place in the church hall at 12:30 pm after the service.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation are asked to consider All Saints Anglican Church or the Hospital Foundation of your choice.
