Obituary of Vera Esther Snyder

Vera passed away on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at the age of 98. She is predeceased by her husband Eden Snyder (1992), the father of her children. After Eden’s passing, she married Paul Weber in 2004. She is survived by her children Myrna Eby (Tim) of Kitchener, Elizabeth West (Tim) of Parry Sound, and Kathleen Figueira (Manny, d. 2017) of Kitchener. Grandchildren – Tracey (James), Ashley (Blair), David (Julie), Aron (Shay), Kristina (Allen), and 6 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her brother Stewart Esch and his wife Hazel.

She was the daughter of Clayton and Florence Esch and was raised on a farm near the village of Conestogo.

Vera retired from the bookstore at U of W. She was a longtime and faithful member of Trillium (St. John’s) Lutheran Church in Waterloo where she sang in the choir for over 35 years. Music was important to her and she played her piano well into her 90’s. Her and Eden were very involved members of the Optimist Club. She was a member of Probus and The Waterloo Horticultural Society. She took pride in her garden and there were always lovely flowers blooming in her yard. She exercised at the Breithaupt Center with the Super Seniors and made many wonderful friendships there.

Vera had an indomitable spirit that she carried all through her life. Her mottos were “Tomorrow is Another Day” and “Never give up.”

Special thanks to her niece and nephew Matt and Michelle Esch for all their care and kindness. Thank you to all the health care workers and volunteers that helped Vera in the past year.

A Visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S, Waterloo on Friday, December 29, 2023 from 10:30 am – 11:30 am. The Funeral Service will begin in the funeral home’s chapel at 11:30am, with a Reception to follow in the Fireside Reception Room.
