Obituary of Barbara Elizabeth Huras
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Barbara Elizabeth Huras, peacefully at Trinity Village LTC, surrounded by family, Thursday, January 11, 2024, in her 89th year.
Loving mother of David (Christina) Huras, Matthew (Theresa) Huras, and Andrea (Barry) Wolfe; her grandchildren Jenelle and Jason Huras, Kristyn Richards, Adam and Katie Huras, Krystal Wolfe (partner Josh), Cassie (Johnny) Fulford, and Courtney Wolfe; and her great-grandchildren, Jack and Liam Pearce, and Theo Fulford. Predeceased by her devoted and beloved husband of 65+ years, Bishop Rev. Dr. William David Huras, parents Rev. Albert and Hester (Kelterborn) Lotz, and sister Kathryn Weber.
Barbara was born in Ottawa, Ontario on December 7th, 1934. From a very young age, she was known for her strong faith and her kind heart, traits which only grew stronger with each passing day.
Devoted friend. Caring nurse and volunteer. Loving mother, grandmother, and above all, wife. Barbara excelled at it all. She received her Registered Nurse accreditation in 1957 at Kitchener-Waterloo Hospital (now Grand River Hospital), receiving the award for tuberculosis nursing.
Barbara successfully juggled the demands of bringing up a young family, working as a psychiatric nurse, and of course, supporting her devoted husband Bill. She graciously extended herself to others throughout Bill’s career in ministry. In addition, she dedicated many hours volunteering for various events at her church, mental health associations, and as a spiritual care counselor at St. Mary’s Hospital in Kitchener for over 20 years.
Barbara was adored by friends and family. She was an active member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, and so enjoyed worship and fellowship there. She also enjoyed frequent events and gatherings with her 'club' of longtime friends.
Barbara was the best mother, Oma, and great Oma. She was always available to lend an ear and listen endlessly, with kindness and compassion. She graciously welcomed all into her home where fun and laughter were sure to follow. Barbara especially enjoyed Advent and Christmas - always lovingly inviting her family and friends to share in the joy of the season and view her cherished manger scene. She took great delight in gift giving at Christmas, birthdays and other special occasions; she devoted significant time and effort into gift wrapping and her expertise was unparalleled.
Barbara delighted in engaging with the little ones, playing ‘hide'n'seek’, ‘pretend’, and other creative games. And she always made the entire family feel extra special and so very loved.
Most of all, Barbara was absolutely devoted to her husband, Bill. The love she felt for Bill was apparent to all in her radiant smile whenever she was by his side. Their shared deep faith and strong love for each other continued through 65+ beautiful years of marriage.
Barbara’s family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the kind staff at Trinity Village LTC, for their compassionate care.
