Obituary of Jacqueline Slawson

Jacqueline Slawson (nee Wilson) passed away with family by her side on Saturday, January 13th at 82 years of age. Jacqueline is survived by her loving husband Peter, sisters Joan and Lorraine, daughters Robin and Jennifer (Michael) and her son Peter. “Nanny” is much loved by her eight wonderful grandchildren, Robert, Amie, Philip, Neil, Eric, Elizabeth, Ethan and Emma. Jacqueline is predeceased by her parents Jack and Nellie Wilson.

Jacqueline was born and raised in the Mimico area of Toronto where she lived with many aunts, uncles and cousins around her. The entire family survived Hurricane Hazel when Jacqueline was 13 years old. She met then married Peter in Toronto at age 19, after which the young couple moved to Waterloo where Peter attended university in mechanical engineering. Jacqueline received her honorary “put hubby through” degree in 1964, the same year Robin was born. After the birth of Peter and Jennifer, Jacqueline spent many rewarding years working with staff at Centennial Public School in Waterloo. She began as a volunteer in the library and was head secretary in the main office when she retired in 1999. Jackie was a devoted member and volunteer at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Kitchener. Jackie and Peter built their own cottage in 1969 on Blackstone Lake near Parry Sound and the family spent many happy years there during holidays, weekends, and summers. There are many fond memories of Jackie swimming, water skiing and canoeing in the lake in summer and snowmobiling in winter. Jackie always had a very green thumb. She especially loved her gardens and flowers, spending many tireless hours with her roses and orchids. Jackie loved life and was always involved in every aspect of her children and grandchildren’s lives. She will be cherished forever. We love you wife, mother and nanny.

Special thanks to the paramedic teams and staff at St. Mary’s Hospital, particularly the nurses in the Coronary Care Unit that helped and supported her with such kindness.
