Obituary of Anne Marie Slipec
It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Anne Slipec on Friday January 26, 2024, in her 86th year with her niece Mary Young and her good friend Cheryl Boyes at her bedside in Freeport Hospital.
She was predeceased by her parents Mary and John Sulyma, and many aunts, uncles, and dear friends.
Anne was a lifelong wife of Bob Slipec for over 45 years, sister of Pauline and the late Ross Holmes, aunt of Mary and Jay Young and great aunt to Meghan and Jacob (Taylor Currie). She was sister-in-law to Jane and Tom Dalgarno and aunt to Kelly Morgan. Beloved cousin of Dawnna, Steven and Derek Roy, and Natalie Bezruchka.
She graduated from Stratford Teachers College and York University. She was a teacher in many schools throughout Cambridge, Waterloo, Kitchener, and Toronto. She loved her time at St. Demetrious Ukrainian school in Toronto as a teacher librarian along with Sister Rachel and Father John Tataryn. Teaching was a love of hers and she sparkled in front of all her classes.
After Anne retired from teaching, she sold Mary Kay products and enjoyed meeting new people. Anne was a people person and was greatly loved by all who knew her.
Anne and Bob were host families to many Kitchener Rangers hockey players. Gregory Campbell and Ryan Donnelly have been in contact with Anne even up to the present time. When Kitchener won the Memorial Cup, she and Bob were there to cheer them on and when Anne was first diagnosed with cancer, Gregory Campbell brought the Stanley Cup to their home.
Visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Tuesday January 30, 2024 from 2 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. The Panachyda Service will follow in the chapel of the funeral home at 3 p.m. Cremation will have taken place. A private family interment will be held at a later date.
There is a belief in our family that loved ones visit us. When a cardinal appears, or you find a shiny dime, we believe that they are watching over us. A rainbow is a sign that the soul is in heaven. All three have been present in Anne's final days – we know that she is at peace.
In lieu of flowers, condolences for the family and donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Transfiguration, Kitchener. may be arranged through the funeral home at 519-745-8445 or www.erbgood.com
Friendly thanks to the wonderful nurses at Freeport and Grand River Hospital.
