David Gregory Mumby, age 51, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2024, at Grand River Hospital due to a sudden illness, surrounded by his family. He was born June 9, 1972, in Ajax, ON, to Dennis and Eileen Mumby. He married his best friend and love, Sheryl, in August 2002, and welcomed his beloved son Dalton to the world on August 6, 2006.

“I’m here for the comedy and I fix things on the side,” was a saying that David used often, and it summed him up perfectly. He loved to make people laugh and was never short of antics to ensure that happened. People who knew David and those who had just met him gravitated toward his energy and easy nature.  David had a generosity of spirit, frequently demonstrating his willingness to help others whenever the opportunity presented itself. David had a passion for music, collecting GI Joe’s, and feeling the grass on his bare feet — especially if it was freshly cut because, aside from tomato plants, that was his favorite smell.

David put his family first in all he did and relished spoiling them with unannounced gifts and surprises frequently. When not lavishing his loved ones with presents, he also demonstrated his deep empathy for others, often putting himself in their same situation, so he could offer better support. His passion and pride in his family’s achievements was always evident by way of his enthusiasm, always rooting for his loved ones and telling them how proud or happy he was for them. David was always in your corner and his friends and family were always the better for it. For many years, David worked for Clarion Medical, where he put his repair skills to use for a company he adored. He was proud to be a part of the team there and was honoured to receive awards for his dedication and hard work.

David was preceded in death by his father, Dennis Mumby, and is survived by his mother, Eileen Mumby; his wife Sheryl, and his son Dalton; his sister Anthea Mumby, her husband Douglas Pinnell, and their daughter Rhiannan; his brother Steven Mumby, and his partner Sara Wickenden, and their son Elliott; Steven’s son Daniel Hendley and his wife Monica Levac-Hendley; his best friends Brian Reilly, Mike Delisle, and Lisa Ram; and his beloved kitties, Callie, Zan, Jayna, and Jester.

We will celebrate David’s life on Thursday, February 8, 2024. Visitation will take place at Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S, Waterloo, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. A service will follow in the chapel of the funeral home at 1:00 p.m.
