Barbara Brittain passed away peacefully at St. Mary’s General Hospital, Kitchener, on Sunday, February 18, 2024, at the age of 78.
She was the beloved wife of Ross Brittain, sharing 55 years of cherished marriage together. Barbara was a devoted mother to Paul and his wife Beth, as well as to Melanie and her husband Mark.
Her legacy lives on through her adored grandchildren, Jake, Marelle, and Nicolas, whom she thoroughly enjoyed spending time with.
Preceding her in death were her parents, James and Elizabeth (nee Carson) McMurdo, and her sister Patricia.
Fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews.
One of Barbara's favorite retreats was the family cottage at Muskoka Bible Centre where she cherished quiet moments reading in her screened in porch and shared her love for music by often playing the piano during services and special gatherings in the chapel.
Alongside her husband Ross, she traveled to numerous gospel quartet conventions, Gospel Music Cruises, and enjoyed memorable family vacations to Disney in Florida.
As a beloved piano teacher in Waterloo, she achieved her ARCT and was a longtime member of ORMTA (Ontario Registered Music Teachers Association). She poured her heart into the musical ministry at First Baptist Church, for over 37 years, where she mentored and created various girls and ladies ensembles and worship teams.
Barb's musical talents and abilities were a gift from God given to her at an early age, and now, whole again in heaven, she is part of the Heavenly Chorus!
Visitation will take place at First Baptist Church, 306 Erb St. W, Waterloo, on Friday, February 23, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and on Saturday, February 24, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow in the church hall.
