Obituary of Sofia Hendel (nee Emrich)

Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at the age of 93.

Sofia is survived by her children Henry (Debbie), Karin Harbach (Randy), and Gery (Lisa), grandchildren Brent (Tessa), Andrea Pascoe (Shaun), Jeff Harbach, Joel, and Blake, great-grandchildren Henry, Eleanor, Avaya, and Huxley, sister Maria Wilging, sister-in-law Mary Vorderhuber, and many nieces and nephews.

Sofia was predeceased by her beloved husband John (2014), sisters Anna and Katie, and her brother Johann.

Sofia loved cooking and baking for her family, walking outside, and enjoying tea and “kuchen” with her friends and family. She was a 70-year member of the Transylvania Club, and retired from Jamesway Incubator. Above all, Sofia cherished the company of her family and friends, especially her great-grandchildren, who brought her so much joy. 

Special thanks to the entire staff at Chartwell Terrace on the Square, the Care Partners and Palliative Team, and Dr. Kent Bauman for the compassionate care you gave to Sofia.

Visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Monday, February 26 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The Memorial Service will take place in the chapel of the funeral home on Tuesday, February 27 at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow.
