Obituary of Verna May Carr
Verna Carr sadly passed away under the care of St. Mary’s hospital on Friday March 8, 2024, aged 94.
She was predeceased by her husband David, daughter Kaiulani, and her sister Jean Briggs. She is survived by her son Dr. Jeffrey, sister Janet Pedrotti and their loving families.
Verna was born in Kitchener to Edward and Lillian Schweigert, and apart from six years in Hawaii with David, remained in Waterloo Region, particularly Heidelberg. She graduated from KCI, Waterloo College, Wilfrid Laurier University and Ontario College of Education to teach. She taught for many years at KCI and as head of girls’ Phys-Ed at FHCI. Her specialty was dance, but she coached many winning sports teams.
Verna was very active in her community, especially at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Heidelberg, at which she established a retirees’ club. She taught tennis, which she enjoyed with a passion, and had been Kitchener mixed doubles champion in 1953. She loved to travel, including to Europe, Mexico, and to her son's home. She loved music, the arts and handicrafts, like painting and quilting. She brought enthusiasm and love to everything she did, and anyone she met.
A special thanks to Verna’s PSWs for their care of her, and her providers at St. Mary’s.
