Obituary of Eric Francis Rhind
Passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at Sunnyside Home in Kitchener, at the age of 91.
Loving father and father-in-law of Karen Ann (Hein) Low, Kevin (Kristen) Rhind, and Sheila (David) Dorsch. Gentle and kind-hearted grandfather, “Pop”, to Maya, Fiona, Sydney, Owen, Nathan, Dawson, Sophie, and Flynn.
Eric was predeceased by his beloved wife Sandra (2014), sister Jean, and brother, David.
Eric was born in Toronto in 1932. He grew up in Bolton, Ontario, and he graduated from The University of Toronto. To support himself as a student, he had many fascinating jobs such as usher at Exhibition Stadium and bicycle courier for Eaton’s department store. In 1967, he moved to Kapuskasing, Ontario, for a ‘year or two’ to teach and earn isolation pay. There he met his wife Sandy and had three children (and a quirky basset hound). He worked at the local high school (KDHS) as a trusted and respected guidance counselor, and he was an active member of the Rotary Club. Twenty-three years later, the family moved to Waterloo, Ontario. Eric enjoyed a long and productive retirement. He was active in the community as a volunteer; he enjoyed hiking and traveling, and Eric especially loved visiting the cottage in Nova Scotia.
Sincere and heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff of Buttonworks at Sunnyside Home in Kitchener for the compassionate care and love you gave to Eric.
