Obituary of Man Hah Tom

Mrs. Man Hah “Gracie” Tom, passed away on March 19th, 2024, in her 87th year.

She leaves behind a devoted husband of 65 years, Gue Son "Power", cherished mother of Doris, Dawn (Roger), Nelson and Denise (Christopher). Dear grandmother of Jessica, Ben, Katie, William and Clarisse. Dearly missed by friends and relatives.

Gracie was born in Kaiping County, Guangdong, China, in 1936. She was a “picture bride” arriving in Stratford, Ontario in 1958 where she met her husband, Gue Son, for the very first time. She was petite, shy and charming and did not speak a word of English, except for “I do”. 

She left China during a tumultuous period and her experiences there coloured her spirit; she had difficulty adjusting to her new life. She persevered however, despite all her challenges. She was reserved, tenacious and resilient.

She was extremely frugal, never having spent anything on herself. In her last years with dementia, she became the sweetest and gentlest soul to her children. We adore, love and miss her dearly.

We would like to thank the PSWs, nurses and staff at Barnswallow Place, Elmira, for their remarkable care of Gracie. 

A private celebration of life will take place at a later date.
