Obituary of Ameela S. Maharaj

Passed away peacefully at Hospice Waterloo Region on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at the age of 69 after a long journey with cancer.

Cherished sister of Leela Chevannes-Maharaj, Lynn Maharaj, Molly (Krishna) Ramgoolie, Colly (Harry) Sieunarine and Meena (Ramesh) Maharajh, and an aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by her parents Bhawandath and Sookdaye Maharaj, brothers Sieudath Maharaj, Deodath Maharaj, Bissoondath Maharaj, Mohan Maharaj and sisters Sundardaye Maharaj, Kaloutie Mohess and Indardaye Maraj.

Ameela retired from the engineering department at Bell with over 30 years of service. She maintained a healthy, active lifestyle, and enjoyed soaking up the sun whether cruising, or at the beach in her home country of Trinidad and Tobago. Spending time with her nieces and nephews brought her joy.

Special thanks to Dr. Tan and the palliative care team at the hospice along with Ameela’s dear friend Harold Arand for his love and support.

Cremation has taken place, and a private Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.
