Obituary of John Douglas Barlow

It is with great sadness that we announce that John Douglas Barlow passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at Grand River Hospital on April 13, 2024, at the age of 76. Doug was born in Welland, Ontario, on September 29, 1947, to William (Bill) and Helen (nee Steinhoff), and grew up in Hamilton. Doug enjoyed travelling, skiing, camping out West, cooking, completing the next exciting house project, always having music on in the background and having a good laugh with family and friends. After retiring from the University of Waterloo in 2012 Doug enjoyed tending to his already immaculate garden and spending time with his beautiful grandchildren.

Doug leaves behind his loving wife of 43 years, Barbara (nee Jamieson), his children, Heather (Byron), Spencer (Priscille), and Noah, his grandchildren, Ellie, Jamieson, Amelie, Max, Izzy, Lennox, Kian and Anara. Doug also leaves behind his brother Ross, brother-in-law, Derek (Gwen), and his many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Doug is predeceased by his sister, Mary Patricia Simpson, and his parents.

Cremation has taken place. Friends and family are invited to a memorial reception to celebrate Doug’s life at Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, on Sunday, April 21, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.
