Obituary of Maxine Angeline Hammell

Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at the age of 94. 

Survived by her children Bruce Hammell (Brenda), Cheryl Melnik (George), and Shawn Hammell (Monique), grandchildren Andrea, Ryan, Arden, Anna, Stephen, Lucas, Larissa, Seth, Phillip, and Steven, and twelve great-grandchildren.

Maxine was predeceased by her daughter Janice, brothers Allan Leadbetter, Richard Leadbetter, Graham Leadbetter, sisters Joan Brierley and Claire Dowd, her husband Kenneth Hammell, and her grandson Kevin.

Nothing was more important to Maxine than her family and friends in Waterloo, Hamilton, and North Bay. She especially cherished her social group from work, the “Zellers Girls.” Maxine enjoyed music and singing, as well as needlepoint and knitting. She will be deeply missed.

Special thanks to all the staff at Grand River Hospital, Freeport Hospital, Beechwood Manor, and Columbia Forest for your compassionate care of Maxine.

Cremation has taken place. A Visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Thursday, May 9, 2024 from 2:00p.m. to 4:00p.m.  The Memorial Service will be held in the funeral home’s chapel on Friday, May 10, 2024 at 2:00p.m. The service will be livestreamed on the funeral home’s website for those who cannot attend in person. A reception will follow.
