Ann, I'm so sorry to hear about Geoff. My deepest condolences to you, Michael, Ian, and the rest of your family. Although I was only one of Geoff's summer students, I will never forget him and how he mentored me. He awakened my interest in biology and because of him I have had a very enjoyable career. I have very fond memories of the summers at Matamek and Ungava Bay and these resulted in my becoming a field biologist. He will be deeply missed.

Ann,
We just learned with sadness of Geoff's passing. We have many fond memories of our Waterloo days in Geoff's lab, including our first experience as a married couple of having you and "The Boss" over for dinner, wanting everything to be right (on a graduate student's wages!). Rest in peace Geoff, and our sincerest condolences Ann to you and the family.

Dear Ann,
My sincere condolences on the loss of your dear husband. I was on a visit to Ottawa when the news was sent by our CFUW-KW club.
I have fond memories of you and Geoffrey that go back to the days when our dear husbands were profs at UW.

Geoff Power played a pivotal role in my life by giving me an opportunity to come to Canada and work in his department at UW. Not only did he tolerate my frequent unexplained absences from the lab and distaste for formalin, he helped with my frequent attacks of homesickness, pushed me to the finish line to get a Master’s degree, and gave me an opportunity to teach his vertebrate zoology class.
I had great respect for Geoff. And always will. I envied the passion with which he pursued his chosen academic field, and the adventurous spirit he harnessed to push boundaries both in his work and artistic endeavours. Geoff was a pioneer which is probably the reason he chose to join a fledgling university, rather than become just another cog in the wheel at a larger institution. He was also humble, as well as kind, but he could also be blunt and outspoken in the way you would expect any self-respecting Lancashire lad to be.
My condolences to Ann, who bestowed her warmth and kindness on scores of grad students, and also to Michael and Ian, both of whom were their dad’s pride and joy.

I had the pleasure of taking one of Geoffrey's courses at U of W. I always appreciated providing his dental care and having one of his pieces of art in my office. I am also very thankful for receiving his gift upon my retirement.

Geoff was a good friend for over 50 years. He was responsible for me joining the fledging Biology Department at the new University of Waterloo in 1963, and for being a mentor and ally over many subsequent years. His work at the Matamec Research Station in northeast Quebec is a lasting testimony to his important research contributions, graduate training and leadership. Lynn and I send our sincere condolences to Ann and family.

Dr. Power was the best professor at U Waterloo. I remember him standing in front of a massive classroom of what was then E101 teaching us Vertebrate Zoology. He brought the lectures alive, including live lizards on top of projection units to teach us vertebrate locomotion. It was a riot when warmed by the projection lamp, the lizard decided to scatter around ;). This was in the days before animal care rules made it impossible to just bring live animals to the classroom impromptu. It was Geoff who believed in me, encouraged me and mentored me professionally. I am now retired having done grad studies, becoming a professor like him, a dept head and a senior administrator. I always admired Geoff and I am sad to hear of his passing, but he will always be in our hearts. I wish I had a chance to chat some more with him about our shared love for salmonids.

Sending our deepest condolences to Ann and her family. In 1979 Geoff took a chance on a mediocre British student seeing something there beyond the meagre resume. I joined a great cohort of labmates - first Noel Fraser and Marvin Barnes, and then - shown in the photo with Geoff and his 50th birthday cake - Pepsi Lemieux,Sriley, Ricky and Terry Sowden - and also a storied line of folk who worked at the Matamek Research Station on the Quebec North Shore. Geoff was a fantastic man - the Boss - and he and Ann welcomed us to their house. It is a friendship and love that has endured and Roberta, Ninka, Alina and I will all miss him. I include a collage of a few other photos from across the years that we knew him and prior.
