Obituary of Joanne Williams
Joanne Margaret Williams passed away on Tuesday May 7, 2024, at home with her husband by her side, following a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Joanne was born on November 7, 1948, in Hamilton, ON to Frank and Margaret Williams and is survived by her loving husband Don Burn. She will be missed by her cousin Huong Ly, and Huong’s children William and Cynthia Warren, by Don’s sisters Cathy (Kirk), Nancy (Randy) and Colleen as well as by numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Joanne had a long career as a teacher, first in Winnipeg and then subsequently in Waterloo and St. Jacobs. Joanne taught at all levels in the school system but particularly enjoyed her time as a music specialist and digital arts proponent, which allowed to her pass on her love of musical performance.
Special thanks to the medical staff at the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre. The exceptional and compassionate care given to Joanne at the end of her life by Dr Yew and the nurses from ParaMed Waterloo Home Health Care is greatly appreciated by her family.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Joanne’s life will be held at Erb & Good Funeral Home, 171 King Street S., Waterloo, in the Fireside Reception Room on Sunday June 9, 2024, from 2-4 p.m.
In remembrance of the times she enjoyed at the cottage in Muskoka and Joanne’s love of gardening please consider planting something in her memory.
