Obituary of Stewart Joseph Lockhart
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Husband, Dad, and Papa. Surrounded by family, Stewart (Stew) Lockhart passed away peacefully in his 92nd year on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at Parkwood Mennonite Long-Term Care Home. His family and friends will always remember Stew for his warmth, kindness, generosity, and sense of humour.
Stew will be missed by his loving wife Louise (Luqui), his dear children Cecilia Lockhart Hood (Kevin), Rob and Rick and grandchildren Caroline Hood Chmura (Donald) and Natalie. Stew was predeceased by his parents Christina and David Lockhart. He was born in Toronto and was raised there as well as in St. Marys, Ontario.
Family meant everything to Stew. Flying and the aviation world came a close second. Stew’s career as a pilot and aircraft engineer of close to 40 years was a dream come true for him. His jobs took him around the world and it was on one of his work trips in Santa Cruz, Bolivia where Stew met and married the love of his life, Luqui, more than 65 years ago. The happy newlyweds settled in Canada to raise their family and eventually made Waterloo their primary home base.
Stew began his career in aviation flying a variety of aircraft from the small propellor airplanes to larger private jets. He flew Canso waterbombers to battle forest fires in numerous countries. He flew the Learjet for the Toronto Maple Leaf executives. He miraculously survived a plane crash in a remote lake in northern B.C. Stew spent the last 16 years of his career as a De Havilland/Bombardier Dash-7 and- 8 Technical Representative. This job sent him on postings to places such as Spain, Australia, Brazil, Honduras, Venezuela, Hawaii, California, and Saudi Arabia, just to name a few. Family and friends were fortunate enough to be able to share special times with him on many of these trips.
Special thanks to the entire staff at Parkwood Mennonite LTC Home. They cared for Stew with such kindness and compassion during his 10-month stay there.
Cremation has taken place. Friends and relatives are invited to a visitation at Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S, Waterloo, on Monday, May 20, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A celebration of Stew’s wonderful life will be held at a later date.
