The Elfeki family is sad to announce the passing of Gwyneth Mary Elfeki, née Thomas, on Monday, May 20th, 2024 at the age of 92.
Gwyneth led a long and lovely life, from her birthplace in Ystradgynlais, Wales to her resting place in Waterloo via Paris, Cairo, Tangier, London, Oxford, Ottawa, and parts farther north and south. The youngest of her family, she follows her late parents, brother and sister—William and Gwendoline, Geralt and Megan Thomas.
Gwyneth died in the embrace of her family—Gamal, Rena, Russell and Jad. She was the constant companion of her devoted husband, Gamal, with whom she enjoyed six decades of love and laughter.
Gwyneth was an educator all her life: first as a teacher before coming to Canada, then as loving mother and dear friend to her daughter, Rena, whom she guided with patience and wisdom every step of the way.
Her charm, sparkling humour, friendliness and curiosity (as well as a love of mashed potatoes) live on in her grandson, Jad, who was born just in time for them to spend his first, and her final, months together.
She will be missed by her son-in-law, Russell, and family around the world.
Friends and family are invited to a memorial service to celebrate Gwyneth’s life at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Sunday, May 26, 2024 at 11:30 a.m. Interment will immediately follow the service at Parkview Cemetery, 335 University Ave, Waterloo, followed by a reception at the family home. A livestream and recording of the service will be available on Gwyneth’s tribute page at www.erbgood.com and at www.inmemoryofgwyneth.ca
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial donations to the Elfeki Family Fund for NeuroHealth at Grand River Hospital Foundation, www.inmemoryofgwyneth.ca or 519-749-4205
Cariad, we love you and, God willing, we will meet again.
