I have so many great memories of Darren as a childhood friend and neighbor!
It was a carefree time. Enumerable hours spent playing various sports with Darren and the neighborhood gang. Street hockey on Dorset, ice hockey at Playfair Park and at Alta Vista Arena with his loving dad Jon as coach, little league baseball, football and soccer on the street and lawns (and sometimes hedges), basketball on his driveway, pool & ping pong in our basement, ski trips to the Gatineau, waterskiing at their Brule Lake cottage, and so much more. Laughing and giggling the whole time!
Unsurprisingly, we were also avid sports fans, collecting NHL player cards and cheering for the 67s and Rough Riders through thick and thin.
In our early teenage years, we immersed ourselves in Rock-and-Roll … blasting cheap family stereos with the likes of the Rolling Stones, Queen, BTO, ELO and Led Zeppelin.
He was always entertaining, and at times a bundle of trouble!
I will always cherish those childhood memories and look forward to hearing many more stories of a friend that was taken far too early.
In reading his obituary, I wish I knew Darren during his adult years. The cost of living far away (Texas, Oregon, California and now Hawai’i. I can see we still had a lot in common.
My condolences to Norah, Sandy and Jennifer and many friends and family whom I did not get a change to meet.
Your childhood buddy!
Charlie.
