Obituary of Bruce Leroy Bedford

“What a friend we have in Jesus.”

Passed away peacefully at Grand River Hospital on June 1, 2024, in his 89th year.

Survived by his loving wife Marlene of 23 years, his children, Kim (Gwen), Lois Amos (the late Bryan Amos, the late Douglas Herter), Paul, David (Connie) and Victoria (Reid) Grassick, his step-children, Elsie Mae (Jason) Clements and Franklyn (Amy) Spence, his grandchildren, Amber (Conrad) Ritchat, Christopher Bedford (Samantha Turner), Noel (Enku) Bedford, Megan (Blair) Winch, Erin (Christopher) Savard, Courtney (Andrew) Campbell, Colin Amos (Brittany Fisk), Gabriela Bedford (Veneet Bhalla), Ryan (Moriah) Bedford, Andrea Bedford (Noel Chalmers), Ian (Andrea) Grassick, and James Grassick (Hayley Manakis). Bruce was blessed with 18 great-grandchildren. Uncle to Brad Bedford and Karen (Greg) Tyrala. Bruce will be remembered by Jane, mother of Gabriela, his step-grandchildren Dale Herter, Claire and Alice Spence, and his extended family and friends.

Predeceased by parents Gerald and Ruth Bedford, brother Murray Bedford, and sister Mavis Bedford.

Bruce cared deeply for his family. He was a loving and supportive husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, still remembering birthdays with cards or a phone call. He and Marlene had a loving marriage, and together enjoyed a passion for the outdoors, gardening, and thrift shops. Bruce was a man of strong faith and loved the Lord. He read and studied his Bible and prayed faithfully every day. Bruce enjoyed attending services at Waterloo Mennonite Brethren Church and his men’s breakfast meetings.

Bruce’s working career led him down many paths, including teacher, entrepreneur, real estate investor and financial advisor. He enjoyed his membership with the Rotary Club in his earlier years.

Although he lived with significant vision loss in his later years, he challenged himself for his independence, enjoying his free bus pass.

Special thanks to the staff at Hygate on Lexington for the care and ongoing support they have shown Bruce and his family.
