Obituary of Judith "Judi" Lynn Batten
It is with deep sadness that we announce Judith “Judi” Lynn Batten’s passing at Grand River Hospital on Friday May 31, 2024 at age of 71.
Judi was born in 1952 in Toronto to loving parents Kenneth and Beverley Batten, whom she loved whole heartly. Her family quickly grew with the arrival of her siblings and cousins whom she spent a lifetime enjoying a good laugh, mischief, adventures, and unyielding love. Their support throughout life helped soften trials like the loss of her parents, and her son Blair. They also enhanced her joy in celebrating the arrival of her children Nikki & Kyle whom she was often found saying "They are my pride and joy!".
Judi’s joy for family only got bigger with each arrival, nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces, great nephews, and all the in-laws. She could not wait to spend time with each and every one, and always took the time to ensure that each person felt special and loved.
Her love of family brought her to Kitchener, so she could make sure that she could eat breakfast with her kids each morning. This move brought many lifelong friendships and a long and successful career in both the insurance and technology sectors.
Judi was a firecracker whose quick wit would often find others in stitches. She was up for travel far and wide, exploring the world of art, new food and a good adventure, so long as it included her loved ones. When she did want alone time, you could often find her floating and treading water for hours.
Her illness was sudden and unexpected, throughout the three weeks in ICU-A the Grand River staff were compassionate, kind, attentive & world class. They made sure top-quality care for her was front and center at every moment, while also caring for friends and family visiting Judi. A special thank you for the loving support of our cousin Rebecca Keffer who journeyed for hours to be with us in ICU-A. Your love for mom and ability to bring joy during this time is priceless and will never be forgotten. The love mom was shown by all, was beyond words and we will be forever grateful to all that helped her on this difficult journey.
Judi leaves behind her much-loved children Nikki Monchuk (Darryl Young) of Calgary, AB. and Kyle Monchuk (Leeann Roy) of Toronto, ON., siblings Sharron Cooper (Paul Cooper), Greg Batten (Penny Batten) and Brian Batten of the GTA ON. She will be greatly missed by her cousin & best friend Darlene Keffer of St Andrew's NB. Also left to morn are her nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces, and great nephews. She will be missed by her friends and all who had the privilege to know her.
As Judi departs this earth, she leaves a legacy of immense love & generosity, we will miss her, but are grateful for the time we had with her.
A Celebration of Judi’s life will be held in the chapel of the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Saturday June 8, 2024 at 11 a.m. Followed by a reception in the Fireside Reception Room. Cremation will have taken place.
