Obituary of Peter Douglas Watson

With sadness and heavy hearts, we announce that Peter Douglas Watson passed away peacefully with family by his side on Sunday, June 9, 2024, at the age of 86.

Peter will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his beloved wife of 56 years, Suzanne Watson (nee Gratton), son Kevin Watson (Jen), daughter Megan Mirghavami (Hess), his grandchildren whom he adored; Kian, Andrew, and Ava, as well as his extended family and friends.

Predeceased by his parents and sister “Watty”, Peter was born in Liverpool, England, and came to Canada in 1964. Before becoming a chief accountant for Economical Insurance, he began his career as a banker. He opened the door for Suzanne on her first day of work at the bank, they had an instant connection, two weeks later Peter asked Suzanne to join him for lunch at the deli across the street. It was the beginning of 56 years together. You only needed to see the light in his eyes whenever he looked at her to understand the love between them.

Peter loved to watch soccer - his favourite team was the Liverpool Reds. He enjoyed watching baseball (especially the Blue Jays) and golf. He was an avid reader, loved a coffee from ‘Timmies’, Boddington's beer, a good scotch, and had a sweet tooth for chocolate. Sunday mornings in the summer, he and Suzanne could be found at the Aberfoyle Antique Market, a favourite place of theirs to visit.

Peter was a kind, soft-spoken gentleman, and he made sure we all knew how much he loved us. His family was everything to him. We will always keep him close in our hearts.

Special thanks to the staff at Freeport Hospital for the compassionate care they provided to Peter.

Cremation has taken place. Friends and relatives are invited to a come-and-go Celebration of Life at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S. Waterloo on Saturday, June 22, 2024, from 11:00am – 2:00pm, with remarks to be shared at 1pm.
