Obituary of Catharina Renata Grausam

Passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 9, 2024, at the age of 84.

Survived by her son Mark Grausam, her daughter Deborah Kapshey (Brian), her grandchildren Chris (Sarah), Michelle, and Tyler, and her great-granddaughter MacKenzie.

Predeceased by her husband of 56 years Hans Grausam, and her two sisters Renata and Marilisa.

Catharina was born in São Paulo, Brazil, and spent most of her formative years in Curitiba. In 1958, she moved to Canada with her parents. Shortly thereafter, she married her husband, Hans, and raised her family in Waterloo, Ontario. Catharina worked in the banking industry and specialized in foreign exchange services as she spoke multiple languages.

In 1980, she spent about 9 months in the hospital, and overcame her bone cancer against great odds. Her tenacious and fighting spirit in dealing with her health issues prevailed with her until the end. Catharina always had a loving and bright smile on her face and instantly brought joy to whoever had the pleasure of meeting her. Her positivity and tenacity were character traits that endeared her to many.

She had many interests including learning about computers, reading, and spending time with family and friends. Catharina always had a passion for life and touched the hearts of so many that she met in her life journey.

Cremation has taken place at her request. A Celebration of Life will be held at the family home, 367 Northlake Dr., Waterloo, on Saturday, June 15, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
