I had the privilege of getting to know Joan while volunteering at Out of the Cold. We bonded over washing, drying, and folding tablecloths lol. When Joan was no longer able to volunteer it definitely felt like an important team member was missing. I have fond memories of Joan and feel fortunate that I had the opportunity to spend time with her.

Joan volunteered for yet another committee/project that provided care: the advisory committee for the parish nurse at First United. That was when I met her. She was more than just a committee member...as usual she reached out with friendship. Joan knew so many people, and when she was her friend, she was present in your life and cared deeply for you. She had her own unsung ministry for the people in her broad circle.
Joan stated several times that she needed her church community and worked tireless until very recently to ensure its work was accomplished. But her loyalty to the church could not match her fierce love for her family.
I will miss her smile, her sense of humour, and sitting together in the den, with our feet on the ottoman, with a glass of white wine sharing stories. Hers were so much better than mine: stories of adventures at Proctor and travels around the world. I will miss her wisdom and commitment to caring for others. I admired her discipline to fitness. I miss her sense of adventure: from a last minute trip to Florida where we bought matching plaid shirts; a picnic in near the lake in New Hamburg with her walker. I miss her friendship.
Be well with Don, my friend

Joan was a wonderful woman and friend! We volunteered for many years at the Out of the Cold as servers. I called her "The Young Chick" and she loved that! She had a great sense of humor!

I remember Joan very well from my time working at Central Park Lodge. She was a fantastic nurse and wonderful to work with. More recently we connected at Out of the Cold at First United. She lived a very full life. It was a privilege to know her.
