Obituary of Florence Ruth McGlynn
Born in Culross Township, Ontario. Devoted mother, loving grandmother and great-grandmother, trusted friend.
Early in the morning on June 7, 2024, Florence “Ruth” McGlynn passed away peacefully surrounded by family. She was 97 years old.
Mom grew up on the family farm near Teeswater. Her young life as an only child was filled with rural pleasures, open spaces, farm animals, watching thunderstorms from the veranda and walking to school. Like most children on her concession line, she was unaware of the destruction the Great Depression brought. In the tradition of rural life, if someone needed help, neighbours pitched in. It was an uncomplicated sense of responsibility and caring for others that would define Mom’s outlook on her community and family. Perhaps it is why she lived every moment of every day of her 97 years quietly helping those around her in need.
Mom dearly loved her parents. Being an only child, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and faith and simple homemade fun were central to everything. She gave time to the Teeswater Presbyterian Church volunteering in whatever way she could.
Six children - Randy (Marianne), Pam (Brian), Debbie (Carl decd), Jackie (Randy), Craig and Murray (Colette) - filled her life raising all on her own when her husband Clayton died in 1966. And she adored her 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Always a country girl at heart, Mom loved her gardens, her many pets and visits on the veranda at the family home in Teeswater. She loved travelling, family gatherings for any occasion and dining with friends. She enjoyed spending summers in Port Elgin.
Cremation has taken place.
