Obituary of Paul McCaughtrie

Paul Edgar McCaughtrie passed on from this world alone in his Waterloo apartment, on Thursday, 6 June 2024.  Beloved son of Shirley McCaughtrie of Sechelt, British Columbia. Paul leaves behind his spouse Linda Salewsky, sons Andrew (LeeAnne) and Justin McCaughtrie.  He was a proud grandfather to Carrera, Lillyin, Adelaide, Icelyn, and Landon.  Beloved stepson to Lena McCaughtrie of Brandon Manitoba, brother to Keren Grant of Brandon Manitoba, and nieces Kaylyn, Sasha, Aurora, Monica.

Predeceased by his father, Edgar McCaughtrie of Brandon, Manitoba, his sister Ruth Khademi Sabeghi-mcCaughtrie of Leduc, Alberta, and his brother Timothy Stephen McCaughtrie of Brampton Ontario.

During the family’s happy years Paul was active in the church, made the prefect Baloo to the local cub scouts. Danced with the Kitchener Concordia Club.  Loved to take the family camping, canoeing, and countless other activities. He also loved building many things with wood (like an air hockey table) amongst other things.

His many jobs ranged from the in-law’s family magazine business in the cable communications fields, to working and bouncing in local bars.  He spent many years teaching computer applications, which also took him to the Brandon Friendship Centre where he worked for many years.  In his later years, before his health got too bad, he worked as a security guard.

On June 18, at 1:30 pm, a memorial will be held at Roundhouse Park in Toronto, Ontario, followed by taking Paul out to the Blue Jays ball game at the Rogers Center. Buy your own tickets for the 7:07 pm game, and we will meet at the Parc Social area for reception.

Paul was appreciative of the extra special care he received from the doctors, nurses and social workers at the Grand River Hospital in the last few years as he struggled with kidney disease and dialysis.  In lieu of flowers please consider a contribution to the Grande River Hospital, the Kidney Foundation of Canada or Diabetes Canada.

Papa was a rolling stone,

Wherever he lay his hat was his home,

And when he died

All he left us was alone.
