Obituary of Dorothy Elizabeth Hall

Dorothy (nee Reid) passed away peacefully, in the presence of her family, at Columbia Forest Long Term Care Centre, Waterloo, on Monday, June 24, 2024.

Predeceased by her husband Sam in 2014. Loving mother of Suzanne Smith and husband Rob, and Sandra “Sandi” Henning and husband Greg. Very proud Nanny of Ben Smith and wife Alie Thompson, and Jesse Smith and fiancée Rachel Dempster.

Born in Guelph, Dorothy was raised in Hamilton, ON, where she was very active in CGIT and at Wentworth Baptist Church. Dorothy and Sam met at work, and after time in California and in Scotland, set up home in Waterloo in 1974. Dorothy and Sam worked side-by-side at Hentschel Clock Company before purchasing Colonial Times Clock Company, which they ran successfully until retirement. In retirement, Dorothy enjoyed gardening, baking, reading, making frequent trips to Northern Ireland, ballroom dancing, and spending time with family, her many dear friends, and her beloved terriers.

Dorothy’s family would like to thank Dr. Chris Johansen, and the wonderful nurses and PSWs in Johnston Wing for their compassionate care of Dorothy over the past two years, and for the support given to our family.

Cremation has taken place. As per Dorothy’s wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service.
