Gertrude was a dedicated parishioner of St. Agatha RC Church for many years.
Our mother not only embodied strength, but she lived a truly remarkable life, reaching the age of 97 and experiencing a myriad of extraordinary moments. From surviving World War 2 to bravely emigrating to Canada during the Prague Spring Revolution from Czechoslovakia, alongside her husband, Jan, and three children, she demonstrated immense strength and unwavering fearlessness. She also possessed an extraordinary talent for creating a banquet of exquisite delights that reflected her zest for life. From the finest European pastries and tortes to sublime meals, her culinary prowess elevated every occasion.
Her dishes not only delighted the taste buds but also transformed our gatherings into joyous celebrations with her impeccable presentation. A dedicated homemaker, our mother approached everything she touched with pride and excellence, instilling warmth and care into our home.
Despite emigrating from Czechoslovakia in their forties, our parents led a successful and fulfilling lifestyle well into their nineties, a testament to their hard work and dedication. Our mother's infectious laughter endured through life's challenges, always infusing our family with light-hearted moments. They approached every endeavour with optimism and made the most of every situation. Each house they lived in became a cherished sanctuary, meticulously tended to and turned into a castle filled with love.
In their retirement, they embarked on adventures around the world, journeying to destinations as far-reaching as Australia, Northern Europe, and beyond.
Visitation for Gertrude will take place at St. Agatha Church, 1839 Notre Dame Dr, St. Agatha, on Friday, July 19, 2024 at 10:30 am, followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:00 am, with Fr. Mariusz Durbajlo presiding. Burial will take place at St. Agatha Cemetery immediately following the Mass where Gertrude will be laid to rest beside her husband Jan.
