Obituary of Ursula Silverthorne

Ursula Silverthorne died peacefully on Saturday July 13, 2024 at the age of 96.

She was born in Germany and lived in Berlin during World War II with her parents and three brothers. After the war, she trained as an operating room nurse. While on vacation in Canada, she decided to stay despite a close encounter with Hurricane Hazel. She worked for many years in the OR at St Mary's Hospital in Kitchener where she was introduced to the late David Silverthorne (1994) through a mutual friend. Together they raised their blended family: Dita, Dale, Brett, Lorie and Grant.

Ursula was transformed the moment she became a grandmother, so much so that she would introduce herself as "Nana" to everyone. She cherished granddaughters Barb Bailey and Alyssa Brohman and great granddaughter Juniper Bailey who called her Super Nana (because she was so much more than "great"!). She also cherished grandsons David and Alex and great grandson Luke.

Ursula had a special talent for decorating and gardening as was so evident in her home. She won several gardening awards. She led a disciplined and active life - still downhill skiing at 83! She is greatly missed but we are thankful she is released.

A special thank you for the loving care by her PSW Cindy and the Palliative Care team at Grand River Hospital Freeport Campus.

Cremation will have taken place and a private interment will be held at a later date.

Condolences for the family and donations in Ursula’s memory to the Grand River Hospital Foundation Freeport Campus Palliative Care Unit may be arranged at www.erbgood.com
