It is with heavy hearts but happy memories that we announce the peaceful passing of Daryl Garth Conly on July 14th, 2024. While we wish we had more time to spend with him making memories in Southampton at the cherished family cottage, sharing delicious home-cooked meals with a glass of wine or a pint of Guinness, travelling the world with him, watching the Blue Jays together, listening to and laughing endlessly at his jokes, and just enjoying life with him, we will carry him in our hearts forever.
Daryl met Janet - the love of his life - at Southwood Secondary School and the rest, as they say, is history. They were high school sweethearts, partners, parents, and the ultimate example of soul mates who haven’t left each others’ sides for 54 years. Over the years, they faced all life’s triumphs, challenges and adventures together and usually with Daryl’s quick wit or long-winded story-telling to keep things fun.
Daryl was undoubtedly most proud of his family. He loved and was loved by his children Virginia, Steven (Melissa), and Scott (Annie) and his grandchildren Liam, Aiden, Gwyneth, Colette, Henry, Clive, and Scottie, who brought their Papa endless happiness and joy through their achievements and antics. He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by his mother, Dorothy and his siblings Craig (Leslie), Sandra (John), Lana (Rob), and Beth (Bill). He was predeceased by his father Garth and his brother Dennis (Ruth). He will be missed by a large extended family and many dear friends.
Daryl was a man of integrity - straight-shooting and honest - who always said what he meant and meant what he said. His unmatched humour, many stories, poetic way with words, uncanny ability to collect the most inane items, and the (usually unsolicited) life lessons he freely shared will be remembered by everyone who knew him.
Daryl’s family will receive friends and relatives from 6:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 18, 2024 at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo. A Celebration of Life will be held in the funeral home chapel on Friday, July 19, 2024 at 1:30 p.m. followed afterward by a reception at Proof Kitchen & Lounge, 110 Erb Street West, Waterloo to share stories and memories and have a toast to Daryl.
