Obituary of Istvan Kiss

Forever in our hearts.

Passed away peacefully at home with his loved ones by his side in his 80^th year of life. Devoted husband of the late Bibi N. Kiss, father of 3 daughters and son-in-law, grandfather of 4 grandchildren. Much loved and cherished by numerous relatives in Miskolc, Hungary. Friend of many.

Istvan was a member of the K-W Chess Club for over 3 decades. Very often he would be found in his room preparing for a chess tournament. He won the Canadian National Seniors Chess Champion in 2013 which allowed him to travel to Opatia-Croatia for the 23 World Senior Chess Championship. The last chess tournament played was at the K-W Spring Active Tournament, Rockway Gardens Chess Club in April, 2024 where he won second place. He had 2 queens, the queen of his soul and the queen on the chess board.

A quiet reflection time will be held at the Erb and Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo on Tuesday, July 16 from 6-8pm. Janaaza and Zohar prayers will be held at the Waterloo Masjid on Wednesday, July 17 at 10am, with a burial to follow at 2pm at Parkview Cemetery, 335 University Avenue East, Waterloo, Ontario.
