Obituary of Cass Frey
It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Cass Frey due to a motorcycle accident on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at the age of 31.
Cherished and beloved son of Terry and Liz (nee Guy) Frey. Loving brother of Stacey Frey and her husband John Majik, devoted uncle to Ethan and Benjamin. Special friend Alyssa Pasek. He will be dearly missed by his beloved dog Wrigley.
Dear grandson of Nancy Thompson; nephew of Donna and her husband Paul Steinmann, Yvonne and her husband Darryl Bender, daughters Carly and Katelyn, Cindy and her husband Steve Foster, and Tracy Thompson. Cass will be forever remembered by his many cousins, friends, colleagues and teammates.
Predeceased by his grandparents Art (2002) and Bertha (2013) Frey, and Hubert Guy (2024); step-grandfather Mac Thompson (2006); aunt Sharon Frey (2006) and uncle Murray Frey (2023).
Cass lived a life defined by dedication, compassion, and a profound commitment to both his work and his loved ones. Born with a natural inclination towards nurturing those around him, Cass quickly earned a reputation as the best brother anyone could ask for. He was a steadfast presence, always there to offer support and guidance when needed, embodying the true essence of brotherhood.
As an uncle, Cass took immense pride in his role, cherishing the opportunity to be a positive influence in the lives of his nephews. He held the title of uncle with utmost pride, imparting wisdom, sharing laughter, and creating lasting memories with each cherished moment.
In his professional life, Cass exemplified the virtues of hard work and determination. His journey in hockey began with the Twin Center Stars and continued through impactful stints with the Waterloo Wolves AAA and Elmira Sugar Kings, where he proudly served as team captain for two years. His career culminated with the Milverton 4 Wheel Drives, leaving a legacy of leadership and sportsmanship in his wake.
Beyond the rink, Cass found joy in preparing home-cooked meals that brought his friends and family together. From a young age, he harbored a fascination with heavy equipment, a passion he pursued wholeheartedly. Fulfilling his childhood dream, Cass embarked on a career path as a crane operator apprentice in 2014 with Mammoet, eventually achieving licensure as an esteemed operator. His tenure with Sarens underscored his deep love for his work, his colleagues, and the profound connections he forged along the way.
Yet amidst his professional achievements, Cass's heart belonged to his friends, family and beloved dog Wrigley. They were his world, the center of his universe, and his unwavering devotion to them illuminated every facet of his life. His legacy is one of selflessness, resilience, and an unyielding spirit that touched the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In the hearts of those who loved him, Cassidy John Frey will forever remain a beacon of strength, kindness, and unconditional love. His memory lives on in the countless lives he touched, a testament to a life well-lived and a heart deeply cherished.

A Celebration of Cass’s life will be held at the Elmira Lion’s Hall, 40 South Street West, Elmira on Friday, July 26, 2024 from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m.
