Obituary of Elizabeth Julia Montag
Elizabeth passed away peacefully on Friday, August 9, 2024 at her home at Lanark Village in Kitchener, Ontario, at the age of 97.
She is survived by her loving children Karin Voisin of Waterloo, Kenneth and his wife Yvonne of Brentwood, Tennessee, Lynn and her husband Jeff Snider of Kitchener, Jayne and her husband Heinz Henkel of Waterloo, Grant Montag and his wife Sarah of Ottawa, and Alan Montag of Waterloo.
She is also survived by her ten grandchildren, Rev. Adam Voisin of Hamilton, Angela of Victoria, B.C., Matthew, Thomas and Jessica Montag of Brentwood, Tennessee, Julia, Steven, and Richard Henkel of Waterloo, Scott Snider of Kitchener, and Christina VanHeughten of Kitchener. Twenty great-grandchildren also survive.
Elizabeth was the devoted wife of Alvin Montag who predeceased her on December 18, 1995. She was the daughter of Adam Krug and Elizabeth Toth. She was born in Hungary in 1927, and came to Canada with her parents in 1934.
She was predeceased by her brother John Krug, sister Theresa Kuskoff, sister Mary in infancy, brother-in-law Orville Kuskoff, and sister-in-law Elizabeth Krug. She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Elizabeth and her husband Alvin were founding members of St. Agnes R.C. Church. Elizabeth was a member of the Catholic Women’s League and sang in the choir since its inception. She received the Maple Leaf Commemorative Medal for her dedicated service to her church, and was honoured in 2006 for her 35 years as an Altar Sacristan. She was also a member of the Knights of Columbus retired members club, the quilter’s club of her church, the afternoon prayer group, and the Gold Card Club. Her hobbies were gardening, knitting, and quilting.
She spent her later years at Lanark Retirement Home. We are grateful for the wonderful care she had there, and the many new friends she made.
Visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes RC Church, 173 Lourdes St., Waterloo on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow in the church hall. Interment at Parkview Cemetery.
