Germain "Chick" Woods

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Chick Woods on August 11, 2024. He passed away peacefully after a brief and courageous battle with cancer at the age of 92.

He was born on July 25, 1932, in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia. He served in the Korean War and held several jobs including coal miner in Glace Bay and nickel miner in Sudbury before he settled in Kitchener-Waterloo with his family and began working at Uniroyal.

He loved to work with his hands and enjoyed woodworking and there was nothing he couldn’t fix.

Chick is survived by his daughter Sharon Gerger of Waterloo, son Keith Woods of Carlsbad Springs and daughter Kim Tabor and her husband, Bob of Spring, Texas and his grandchildren, Shawn Gerger and his wife Erin, Kevin Gerger and his wife Ashley, Spencer Tabor, Peyton Tabor, Sydney Tabor and Caden Tabor.

He was predeceased by his wife Della Woods, nee Kearns, his daughter-in-law, Desiree Breland, and his son-in-law, Jim Gerger.

His family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and PSW’s who cared for Chick at home and to all the staff at Hospice, Waterloo Region, the family wants you to know they are grateful for your compassion and excellent care of Chick and his family during his final days.

At Chick’s request, there will be no funeral. The family will have a small private graveside service where he will be laid to rest with his wife.

In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to the Canadian Cancer Society in Chick’s memory.
