Barbara passed away peacefully at St. Mary’s General Hospital in Kitchener on Friday, August 9, 2024, surrounded by her daughters at the age of 91.
Survived and dearly missed by her daughters Margie Hagey (George) and Laura Hagey-Nichols (Ron); her grandchildren Madison (Chris), Emma (Will), and Noah; and her brother Murray McAllister. Loving aunt to Janet, Mike, Bill, Cathy, and David.
Predeceased by her husband John (Jack) Hagey in 2007, her parents William and Marg McAllister, and her sister Shirley Keating.
Barbara Hagey (nee McAllister) was born and raised in Owen Sound, ON. She was a loving daughter to her parents, William and Marg. Barb was destined to become a compassionate and dedicated nurse. She completed her training at K-W Hospital, when she met the love of her life, Jack. Barb practiced as a nurse for 33 years in hospitals, doctors’ offices, and assisted living homes.
Barb’s greatest strengths were her selfless love and caring for others. Her most cherished roles were those of mother and grandmother. She always put her family first and was present in all aspects of her children’s and grandchildren’s lives.
Barb’s infectious laugh drew others to her. Her strength and resilience during her challenges with her health were a testament to her character, never giving up. She loved people! Barb developed and sustained many lasting friendships. There will be a huge void in the lives of all who loved her. Her light will continue to shine through us and the wonderful memories we share. Shine bright, our angel.
Special thanks to the caregivers and staff at Beechwood Manor and Paramed for the compassionate care they gave to Barb, as well as the doctors, nurses, and support staff at St. Mary’s Hospital on the 3rd floor Cardiac Care Unit, for taking such extraordinary care of Barb in her final two weeks.
