So Fong (Sophie) Wong
It is with great sadness that the family of So Fong announce her passing on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at Hospice Waterloo, age 81 years, surrounded by her family.
Dear mother of Julie of Hong Kong, Sandra and her husband Ben To of Markham, Stuart of Waterloo; grandmother of Matthew, Caitlyn, Brandon To, and Kelvin To. Predeceased by her husband Wong, Tung Wah (David) in 2002.
So Fong was born in Hong Kong on March 2, 1943 and was the eldest sister to her six siblings. She immigrated with her husband to Scotland where her children were born before moving to Canada in 1973. So Fong and her husband were entrepreneurs who opened China Kitchen, which was one of the first Chinese restaurants in Waterloo, and then China Boy Food Mart.
Being the eldest child, from a young age So Fong had always put the needs of her family before her own. So Fong was a caring sister, wife, mother and grandmother. She received much joy in giving her time to help others. She could easily converse with different people from all walks of life and enjoyed their companionship. She will be missed by family and friends alike.
Mrs. Wong’s family will receive friends at Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S, Waterloo, on Thursday, August 29, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Funeral service to follow in the chapel of the funeral home at 12:00 p.m. Reception at 12:30 p.m. Interment to follow at Parkview Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.
