Obituary of Audrey Marie Charlton

Passed away peacefully in her sleep a few days after her 95th birthday at Lanark Heights Long Term Care on Thursday, August 29, 2024.

Born August 18, 1929 in Kitchener to Etta and Emmanuel Swartzentruber. Predeceased by her husband Thomas Charlton, daughters Sandy Mowforth (Brian) and Pam Verlinden (Will), siblings Clare Swartzentruber (Dorothy) and Mildred Hoffman (Ken), and her grandson Nic Charlton.

Audrey is lovingly missed and remembered by her son Dale Charlton (Virginia), grandchildren Christie Verlinden (Doug), Kelly Verlinden, Alyssa Charlton, and Julian Hulan, and great-grandchildren Justin, Braxton, and Tristan, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Audrey began work at the age of 16 as a Collator for Kitchener Printing, and worked there for 25 years. She loved to knit and crochet, and over the years she knit many beloved sweaters for her children’s and grandchildren’s birthdays and Christmases. She also knit baby outfits for newborns at the K-W Hospital, where she volunteered for 25 years. Audrey was also very involved at her church, Glen Acres Baptist, volunteering there for many years to provide refreshments for funerals, gatherings, and senior’s events. In her younger years, she loved playing baseball and camping with her family at Sauble Beach. She enjoyed watching Blue Jay Games in her later years.

Much appreciation and thanks to the staff at Lanark Heights for the loving care Audrey received residing there for her last four years of life. The respectful Honour Guard ceremony you did for Audrey’s exit was especially appreciated.
