Obituary of Suzanne Irene Butler
With heavy hearts, yet a smile for all the joy she brought, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, Suzanne Irene Butler, on September 10, 2024, at the age of 78, surrounded by family and filled with love.
Suzanne was the cherished wife of Gary Butler for 58 wonderful years. Predeceased by her dear son Jamie, she leaves behind a legacy of love in her children: Bridget (Mark) Diebold, Rob (Staci) Butler, Chad (Tania) Butler, and Cory (Marie) Butler. She was a treasured grandmother to Sadie (Casey), Brock, Scott, Alexander (Jodie), Chelsey, Brittany (Brody), Curtis (Anastasia), Cameron (Lexi), Brooklyn, Autumn (Cameron), Logan, Luke, and Clementine, and a proud great-grandmother to Narayan and the soon-to-arrive twin girls.
Suzanne was a woman whose heart was as big as her laugh and whose spirit of generosity was matched only by her love for cooking. Her home was always filled with the comforting aroma of something delicious in the oven, and there was always room at her table for anyone who needed a meal, a laugh, or just a listening ear. Suzanne’s acts of kindness were countless, done quietly and without fanfare, touching the lives of so many without ever asking for recognition.
She had a playful spirit and loved nothing more than gathering family and friends around for a lively game of cards. Suzanne's competitive streak shone through when she played Bingo, and she especially enjoyed winning—something she did with delightful frequency, much to the amusement (and sometimes envy) of her fellow players! Her humor was contagious, and her love of fun brought countless moments of laughter and joy to all who knew her. We will forever cherish the memories of her stories, her wit, and the twinkle in her eye that hinted at just a bit of mischief.
She is also survived by her dear siblings Robert (Agnes) Fraser, Scott (Diane) Fraser, and Philip (Lynn) Fraser, and her sister-in-law, Emily Butler, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who loved her dearly.
A celebration of Suzanne's life will begin with visitation at Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, on Friday, September 13, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with Parish Prayers at 7:45 p.m. Continued visitation will take place on Saturday, September 14, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Clements RC Church, 3619 Lobsinger Line, St. Clements, on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 1:00 p.m., with burial to follow at Parkview Cemetery, 335 University Ave., Waterloo. A reception will take place at Erb & Good Family Funeral Home in the Fireside Reception Room immediately following the burial.
In lieu of flowers, Suzanne would have loved for donations to be made to the Hospice of Waterloo Region, a place where love and compassion continue to flourish—just as she would have wanted.
We will always remember Suzanne for her big heart, her bright spirit, and the love she poured into every meal, every laugh, every hand of cards, and every Bingo game.
