Obituary of Anne DeWitte (Joukema)

Anne passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at 90 years of age.

Born in Friesland, Netherlands, to proud parents Ted and Martha Joukema, Anne was the eldest of four children in a farming family.  The family immigrated to Canada in 1951, and not long thereafter, Anne met and married Auke DeWitte, also a Dutchman.  Later, the couple lived many years together in Cambridge, before settling in St. George.

Anne very much enjoyed her home, garden, bird watching, food, music, drives in the countryside … and a long time ago, ice-skating on the canals in Holland.

Known for her smile, sense of humour, and particularly fondness of family, Anne touched the hearts of many lives.

With thanks to friends and neighbours over many years, Anne will miss you.

Survived by her younger sister Betty VanEden (Joe); her brother John Joukema (Lennie); numerous nieces and nephews, DeWitte cousins in the Netherlands, and their families.  And, by her children Martha Fairless (Ron), Brian DeWitte (Pam), and Terry DeWitte (Alison); and grandchildren Hannah and Sophie.

Anne was predeceased by her parents, her husband, her ‘baby’ sister Alice, and her brother-in-law Bruce Lee.

Cremation has taken place; Anne and Auke will rest in peace together. As per Anne’s wishes, no visitation or service will be held.

Condolences for the family and donations to the Kidney Foundation may be arranged through www.erbgood.com.
