Obituary of James Will McKenzie Ironside

Passed away peacefully with family at his side on Thursday, October 17, 2024.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Linda, sons Ryan (Mandy) and Scott (Julia), grandchildren Maddie, Ella, Jack and Will. He is predeceased by parents James & Isabel and brother David.

Jimmy, as he was known by family and countless friends, was ‘one of one’ and a true beauty. Those with the good fortune to have had him as part of their life were blessed with his blunt honesty, his focus and compassion to help others, and a sense of humor that entertained all.

Aside from the fantastic journey of 61 years with the love of his life Linda and a lead role in the lives of two sons that adored him, Jimmy was a proud mechanical engineer, successful business owner, lifelong avid hockey player and fan, the world’s best average golfer, and unfortunately a die-hard Montreal Canadiens fan.  Yes, he would appreciate the humor in that.

Jimmy’s massive circle of friends turned up in droves for his celebration of life in August with people travelling from far and wide. It was a true testament to how loved and respected he was. He was really touched by everyone that came and the kind words shared about him.

The family would like to thank the many involved in his medical care over the past several months including but not limited to his oncology and palliative care teams and the staff at Hospice Waterloo Region. In addition, a special thanks to Jim’s brother-in-law and sister-in-law Gary and Kathy Gaiser, who were an amazing help with Jimmy’s care.

A private family interment will take place.
