Obituary of Katherine Hartig

October 25, 1929 – October 23, 2024

Katherine Hartig passed away peacefully, with her family at her side, on October 23, 2024 at the age of 94. Two days shy of her 95th birthday.

Predeceased by her husband John in 1995, parents Rosina and Samuel Botscher, sister Rosina Pelz, brother-in-law Hans Pelz, brothers Samuel Botscher and Johann Botscher, step daughter-in-law Karen Hartig.

She is survived by her children, Rose Kohl, Sylvia Hartig, Martin Hartig, stepson John Hartig, grandchildren Geoff Kohl (Christine), Samuel Hartig, Katie Hartig, step-grandchildren John Hartig (Tammy), Kathy Jones (Chris), Tim Hartig (Amy), Leigh Anne Deaner (Nick), and their families.

Katherine was born in Weilau, Transylvania on October 25, 1929. She and her family fled their beloved homeland in September, 1944 and settled in Salzburg, Austria before she came to Canada with her uncle, John Frim (Hansi Bachi), in 1952. She met her husband at a friend's wedding and they married in July, 1955.

After living in Toronto for a time, the family moved to Kitchener in 1969. Katherine was an active member of the Transylvania Club and Pilgrim Lutheran Church.

Katherine had a caring, selfless, generous, kind nature, and always put others' needs before her own. She will be sorely missed.

Visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Sunday, October 27, 2024 from 3-6pm
