Obituary of Heidi Freure

Heidi Freure

June 14, 1932 - November 4, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Heidi Freure (nee Besler) age 92. Heidi died peacefully in her sleep on November 4, 2024, at home in Kitchener, with her husband, Harold Freure, by her side.

Heidi was a long-standing member of Reformation Lutheran Church and subsequently Trillium Lutheran Church. She had a strong faith in God and throughout her life she felt and experienced the protective and guiding hands of her guardian angels. She has now joined God’s chorus of angels and is carefully watching over her husband and extended family.

Born in 1932 in North Battleford, Saskatchewan, she moved to Kitchener in 1937 (age 5) with her parents Julius and Elsie Besler and big sister Alice watching over her on the train.

She leaves behind her husband of 73 years, Harold Freure, brother Walter Besler (Rose), brother-in-law Gary McLellan, sister-in-law Eileen Catterall, sister-in-law Eleanor Freure, sister-in-law Fae Freure, son David Freure (Nathalie), daughter Dianne Morley (Ken), daughter Donna Breadner (Robert), daughter Denise Freure-Martin (Dennis), son Doug Freure (Glenda). Heidi is survived by 14 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 4 step great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Heidi is predeceased by her parents Julius and Elsie Besler (nee Schumann), sister Margaret McLellan (2008), sister Alice Huras (just 10 days ago), brother-in-law James Huras (2018), brother-in-law Richard Catterall (2020), brother-in-law James Freure (2021), daughter in law Lynn Freure (2006).

Heidi was a member / volunteer of the May Court Club of Kitchener for over 43 years and a volunteer / supporter of her husband’s membership in the Kitchener Conestoga Rotary Club for 50 years. She was a member Devil’s Glen Ski Club and Georgian Peaks Ski Club and was proud that she was able to ski well into her 80’s. Heidi enjoyed summers at their cottage on Georgian Bay, winters in Collingwood skiing, and numerous trips to their place in Palm Beach Florida and time share in Abaco Bahamas. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, cherishing their visits.

The family extends a heartfelt thank you to Heidi’s caregivers from Warm Embrace (too many to name) for their exceptional dedication and kindness over the past few years.
