Passed peacefully into the presence of her Lord and Saviour on November 22, 2024. Born Sibbeltje Bontekoe in Friesland, Netherlands on June 5, 1924 to Frans and Anna (Hoekstra).
Sybil lived a meaningful life of 38,492 days on this earth. Dear cherished wife of John for 74 years who she loved “like Hotcakes”. Strong, witty, tolerant, sweet Mother, Mom, Sippy Dippy, Mammamia to Johnny (Penny), Richard (Mary), Frank (Carolee) and her late daughter Dorothy (Bill & Linda). Smart, funny grandma to Christopher (Kerri), Samantha, Matthew (Shauna), Simone (Mario) Leif (Jenna), Aaron (Piper) and Leah (Bren). “Great” grandma to Rylan, Avery, Lincoln and Hugo. Sybil was the oldest of 9 children. Predeceased by Meindert, Ido, Jan, Marie & Jetske. Survived by sisters Foekje, Eelkje and Janke and her in laws Janny, Allie and Ted. Tante Sippi will be deeply missed by everyone including nieces and nephews in both Netherlands and Ontario. Sybil and John immigrated to Canada in 1951. They moved onto 6Th Ave. in Kitchener then into their Brentwood homestead where they resided for 67 years. Sybil was a caring neighbour friend who was very much appreciated by all. She loved to walk (fast!) and also rode her bike fast, (according to the neighbour ladies in Florida) until she was 84 years old. Eldest member of the Community Christian Reformed Church of Kitchener. Mom would often say her favourite one word comments being Whatever or Hallelujah or A-1 either in a serious or sarcastic manner which would always bring a smile to our faces. Mom was a great cook. No one makes pea soup, pancakes or pound cake like she could. John and family would like to thank all staff of Winston Park who treated her like family over the past 11 months. Thank you to the nurses, doctors and staff at Grand River Hospital and we cannot say enough about the compassionate care Sybil had received throughout her time spent at Waterloo Region Hospice. Visitors are treated royally as well. Thank you.
Visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Tuesday, November 26th from 12 – 2pm.
