Obituary of David James Dunford
David James Dunford, age 77, died on Saturday, November 23, 2024 of respiratory illness. He passed away at home surrounded by his loved ones.
David was born on April 17, 1947, to family unknown and was adopted by his loving parents Eleanor and James Dunford in Toronto.
David leaves behind a loving wife, Beverly and three children Kristen, Jason and Ryan. He had four beloved grandchildren Kaitlyn, Sean, Aidan and Julia, whom he cherished every day of his waking life.
Dave, or “Grandpa Jeep” as he was affectionately known, will be fondly remembered for his irreverent sense of humour, his artistic creativity, and his deep love for family. He was a prolific illustrator of cars and all things war related, an avid reader, and a collector of vintage toys and military paraphernalia. He was the life of the party and a legend in his own mind. In his own words, he was a walking encyclopedia of useless information. Many of his most cherished times were spent in Muskoka where he made memories for over 70 years. He could often be seen driving his Donzi with his aviator goggles on. David received a second lease on life 12 years ago when he had his life-saving lung transplant on St. Patrick’s Day. He cherished every extra day he had as a result.
Cremation has taken place. Friends and relatives are invited to a Visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Wednesday, November 27 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The Memorial Service will be held on Friday, November 29 in the funeral home’s chapel at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow.
