Obituary of Maria Gondosch

Maria Gondosch, our beloved Omi, passed away on Monday, December 2, 2024, at Grand River Hospital.

Maria was born in Moenchsdorf, Romania, on April 9, 1924. She is survived by her daughter Gertrude (Trudy) Tschoepe, husband Peter; her son Michael, wife Ann; her son Robert, wife Kimberlee; grandchildren Michael Tschoepe (Michelle), Sandra de Montbrun (Landy), Robert Gondosch (Rachel), Karin Sullivan (Tom), Rebecca Gondosch (Braden Horst), Breanna Gondosch, Victoria Gondosch; and nine great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Johann Gondosch  in 1945 and her husband Michael Gondosch in 2003, her parents Maria and Johann Mathes, and her sister Katharina Stoof .  

Maria and her family fled Romania in September 1944 and settled in Bad Hall, Austria. In 1950 Maria, Michael, Gertrude and Michael's parents immigrated to Canada to join family already here. They first settled in Bloomingdale and then later moved to Kitchener, where Maria enjoyed working at Smiles'n Chuckles until her retirement in 1970. At the age of 69 Maria got her driver's license and drove well into her 90's. Friday and Saturday mornings was her special time to meet up with her friends at Tim's. Maria will be greatly missed by her family. We fondly remember her love for her family, her laughter and her sense of humour. Omi, you will live in our hearts forever.

Visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, on Friday, December 6, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, December 7, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. The funeral service will take place in the chapel of the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. followed by a reception in the Fireside Reception Room. Interment will be held at Parkview Cemetery.
