Anita was born in Boston in 1937. Due to unfortunate circumstances of the sudden death of both her parents, she and her siblings were separated, and Anita was brought to Sudbury by extended family. She spent her childhood with her mom that got polio as a sixteen your girl. Nana and her sisters lived in a small two room house with a Quebec heater as there main source of heat in the long winters, but given they didn’t have space or heat, she and her sisters Marie Therese and Cecile were sent to live in the orphanage in the winter months. From this she gained her strength and determination which she had all throughout her life.
She came to Toronto as a young 15 year old where she worked in restaurants learning English as her second language along with her hearing lost in one ear. She met and married Carl Innes. They raised four children together, three boys and one daughter. Carl died in 1992, she struggled with her heart broken for years and then she went on to remarry Stanley Hurley and enjoyed many years of travel and happiness together. Anita loved and was devoted to her family, and to God and her faith.
Anita will be remembered for making the best meals and always having extra for any child, especially when it came to her Sunday roast beef dinners. We will always remember the taste and how it melted in your mouth. We will always remember how she loved all her animals. We will also remember how she taught all of her children how to forgive and how to forget, but always remember the good times over the bad, and to be grateful for all our blessings, and to look at all difficult times as a lessons, as well a challenge but never a punishment. Best of all, she always had the biggest forgiving heart, and a beautiful smile, she knew how make people laugh. She was adventurous and always helping others. Anita always made you feel at ease in her presence, welcomed into her home and her heart. A real Kindred spirit
