Obituary of Albert (Ab) Joseph Nightingale
March 31, 1935 – December 12, 2024
In loving memory of Albert aged 89 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Survived by his wife Winnifred (nee Graham) after 68 years of marriage. Also survived by his children Kathryn Kreiser (Vince), Carol Burton (Kirby) and Ken Nightingale. His sister Pat Kilty (Steve). Four grandchildren: Mathew Kreiser (Caro), Andrew Kreiser (Grace Curly), Glenn Burton (Mersadies), Janet Cotter (Jordan). Five great grandchildren: Avery, Wyatt & Levi Burton, and Logan & Lily Kreiser. The family would also like to thank Pat & Steve and Win’s brother George Graham & wife Joan for all their support.
Albert went to school at Parkdale Collegiate in Toronto where he met Win as well as made lifelong friends that are still close to the family today. He then graduated from the University of Toronto (1957) in Electrical Engineering followed by 3 years in the Canadian army. He was a Lieutenant in the Royal Canadian Signal Corps serving in Borden, ON and Kingston ON, and was Commander of the 3rd Airborne Troop, Gagetown NB.
Following his service, he found work in the burgeoning field of designing and building microwave towers (radio, TV, Police, etc.) which became his life focus – eventually owning and operating his own business in this field. His business allowed him to travel the world and install towers and communications systems in many countries.
Ab was also very busy outside of the business, including working with the Waterloo Chamber of Commerce, Waterloo Skills Training Advisory Council and Kitchener Conestoga Rotary.
He was also an active member of the Toronto Gyro Club (President, 1985, 2000), Gyro District 3 (Governor 2001) and Gyro International (President 2007) for over 50 years.
Ab enjoyed travel and the outdoors – especially canoe trips with family. He was an audiophile and electronics enthusiast and always had a project on the go.
Albert will be joining his parents Eliane and Harold and 2 brothers Harold (2011 at age 77) and Noel (2013 at age 72).
Many thanks to the compassionate staff at the Freeport Palliative Care Unit as well as the K-W Seniors Day Program.
He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Ab’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, condolences for the family or donations to the K-W Senior’s Day Program may be arranged through www.erbgood.com.
