Mildred departed from this life to be present with the Lord at St. Mary’s General Hospital in Kitchener on December 15, 2024, at the age of 101. She was the only child of William McKenzie and Mabel Welsh. She was raised in Cambridge (Preston). Predeceased by her husband Donald Seibel (2017). Loving mother of Glen Seibel.

Mildred began a long career as an elementary school teacher in 1942 at a one room school in Eramosa, with students ranging from grades 1-8. Her career continued at Baden, Elizabeth Ziegler, and Alexandra Public Schools. Mildred’s last, and most rewarding, teaching position was at Three Bridges Public School, serving the Mennonite families in this area, near St. Jacobs. She started teaching there in 1973 and continued teaching there until her retirement from full-time teaching in 1988. Mildred continued to volunteer part-time at Three Bridges P.S. for another 15 years, until the age of 80, coaching students that needed individual help to improve their literacy skills.

Mildred was an accomplished pianist. She was called upon during her teaching career to play for many annual Christmas Concerts. She also played the piano for a monthly Retirement Home Church Service for several years.

She has been a faithful member of Knox Waterloo Presbyterian Church for over 70 years! In her later years, Mildred took on the responsibility for sending birthday, Easter and Christmas cards to the members of the Knox congregation over age 80. She also regularly attended the Wed @ Knox lunch and learn program. Mildred has been extremely grateful for the friendships she developed at Knox over many years.

Mildred lived in her own home for 70 years until shortly after her 100th birthday! In December 2023, Mom moved into the Terrace on the Square in Waterloo. She loved her room with a wonderful view up King St. She also appreciated the meals and the compassionate support that she received while she was a resident.

Many thanks to the doctors, nurses and support staff that cared for Mildred at St. Mary’s General Hospital. Appreciation is also extended to Dr. Lubitz who has provided wonderful support to Mildred as her family doctor for many years.
