Obituary of Larry Andrew Weiler
With his daughter by his side, Larry Andrew Weiler passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 26, 2024, at the age of 78.
Larry was predeceased by his parents Edward and Ruth (Quehl) Weiler, and siblings Bill, Gerome, Ken, Edward, Brian, Ronald, Leonard, Connie, and Jeanette. He is survived by his sisters Rose, Barb, and Kathy, and sister-in-law Lynn Weiler.
Larry grew up in Kitchener and was the eldest of 13 children. The Weilers were a close-knit family, always getting together for Sunday dinners that Grampa Ed would prepare. The house was always full of family. Sharing a meal, talking, playing a game or watching TV shows together.
Larry shared a special bond with his sister Kathy. They looked out for each other and for many years they shared the care of their sister Jeanette, whom he adored, until her passing in 2022.
Larry had a deep love of music. He loved watching local musicians play and the Kitchener Blues Festival was always a highlight of his year. He was a die hard Leaf fan, an avid chess player and HAM radio operator.
He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was quick to laugh, hug, and enjoyed sharing stories of his youth.
In November of 2023 Larry was diagnosed with Alzheimers. A terrible disease that slowly robbed him of his memories and independence. He never forgot his family though. Even in his final days he knew their names and held onto their hands so tightly.
Larry will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his daughter Lisa Weiler Haskins and her partner Richard Hamming, son Scott Weiler and his partner Brigitte De Jonge, son Corey Weiler and his wife Tracy, and his grandchildren Jessica Haskins (Phil Aslin), Michael Haskins, Rebekah Shraud, Annique Boulanger Weiler, Owen and Ainsley Weiler, Lilliene and Jacqueline De Jonge Weiler, step grandchildren Alisha and Matthew Hamming, and one great-grandchild Hazel Aslin.
He will be fondly remembered by his nephew Barry Degraaf (Teresa Reibling), niece Carissa Fardy (Brendan) and nephew Adam Weiler.
Special thanks to the staff at Columbia Forest LTC, Dr. Fred Mather, nurses Wendy and Kamar, resident service coordinator Amanda, barber Sharrin, as well as many compassionate PSW’s, PSAs, recreation staff, and physiotherapists.
Visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, on Thursday, January 2, 2025, from 2:30 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. Larry’s Celebration of Life will begin in the funeral home’s chapel at 4:00 p.m. Cremation will follow, and a private interment at Memory Gardens will be held at a later date.
