Passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at her residence on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at the age of 84.
Beloved wife and best friend of Pat Ellert, married for 63 years. Loving mother of Deb Ellert, Kim (the late Carey) Bissonnette, and Tracey (Jeremy) Logel. She will be forever remembered by her cherished grandchildren Victoria (Blair), Nicholas (Bridget), Justine (Zach), Braydon, Ava and Emma; great-grandchildren Rena, Perry, and Whitney. She was a dear sister to Bob (Eileen), Harvey(the late Franci), John (Anne), Betty (the late Jack), Frank (Mary), Allan, Dave (Denise), Carol (the late Pat) and Brenda (the late Merv). Predeceased by her parents Gerald and Malinda (nee Schnurr) Weishar and her brothers Bob, Harvey and Dave.
Doreen was born in Bruce County and was raised on a farm in Formosa. She moved to Kitchener-Waterloo in 1958 to begin her career at The Mutual Group. It was at The Mutual Group where she met the love of her life. Doreen has always been a strong willed, hardworking and determined woman who was especially known for her positivity and contagious smile. Her zest for life and outgoing personality made her an absolute joy to be around in any environment, making friends everywhere she went. Doreen was always on the move and got great pleasure from travelling, walking, biking, playing golf or pickleball, shopping, or playing cards with her family and friends – who meant so much to her. She was a support to so many and will forever be remembered as a champion. Even through her battle with cancer, Doreen fought with a smile and such graceful strength until her very last breath. She is a true inspiration and a testament of optimism, resilience, faith, and love. To know her was to truly love her and she will be deeply missed.
A special thank you to Dr. Lumsden and the oncology team at Grand River Cancer Centre for their continuous guidance during Doreen's cancer journey. Also, a big thank you to the community palliative team for helping make Doreen so comfortable at home.
